Steam distilled from flowers
Pale yellow to colourless with a heady floral and herbaceous note.
Used throughout Europe as a topical medicine, personal hygiene protocol and general household cleaning agent, it has a beautiful floral appeal that psychologically means ‘clean’ to so many. It has the medicinal benefits of calming the nerves and clearing the respiratory canals, and can be used topically for dermatitis of all kinds, while immersion in Lavender baths has been a cure for colic, indigestion and other digestive ailments.
Clinical properties - antiseptic, analgesic, anti-convulsant, anti-depressant, anti-rheumatic, anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, carminative, cholagogue, cicatrisant, cordial, cytophylactic (protects against cell wall destruction), decongestant, deodorant, diuretic (promotes urination), emmenagogue (promotes menstruation), hypotensive (increases blood pressure), nervine (nervous system assistant), rubefacient (causes topical redness), sedative (causes deep relaxation), sudorific (sweat inducing) and vulnerary (wound healing).
Blends well with: most citrus oils eg: Lime, lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, and cedarwood, clary sage, geranium, pine, nutmeg.
Always do a Patch Test before use topically as everyone is different and will react uniquely to any product (natural or synthetic).
Lavender - Certified Organic Essential Oil
To improve sleep and aid recovery from shock or trauma - Add 5 drops to a vapouriser and allow time to breathe it in deeply.
To relieve anxiety, headaches, stress and all kinds of tension - Add 1ml to 5ml carrier oil and rub onto the wrists, collarbone, behind the ears and the sides of the temples. Add 10 drops to a warm bath and soak for 10minutes or more. Pat your skin dry and wear loose clothing.For panic or anxiety ‘attacks’, place one drop onto the top of the head and wrists and breathe in deeply until symptoms subside.
For insomnia, add 10 drops to a vapouriser 15minutes before bed in the bedroom allowing the vapours to fill the room before attempting sleep. (for chronic cases of insomnia add 2 drops each of Rosewood and Vetiver) Add 3ml to an atomizer of 100ml pure water and use as a linen spray on the pillow and covers.
Add 15 drops to your rinse cycle instead of using ‘fabric softener’.
For fever or rising temperature – use a wet face washer or small cloth, add 3 drops of Lavender and place the washer in the fridge for 15mins. Apply to the temples, forehead and back of the neck until the temperature reduces. (have three cloths prepared so they can be rotated over the course of the treatment)
For prickly heat, viral rashes (shingles, chickenpox, etc.) – add 5 drops into a luke warm to cool bath and soak for 15mins. Do not rinse but air dry if possible or gently pat dry. Repeat up to 3 times a day and especially before bed to relieve itching and to cleanse the open skin areas. Wear loose, natural fibre clothing and drink lots of pure water.
