Make your own Home Spa Facial Mask

I'm so happy to be adding this pure Australian Kaolin Clay to the DIY Ingredients. There are a lot of ready made mask formulations out there, but I know that it's better for you to assess your skin and make your mask fresh, for you, for right now, for what your skin needs.

Whip up your own fresh facial mask in moments using the soft and silky Australian White Kaolin Clay. It's the most gentle, mild and nurturing clay and makes a suitable mask for all kinds of skin; children, elderly, sensitive, maturing, damaged or 'normal'.

Clay mask treatments help to gently bring impurities out of the skin and cleanses pollutants from deep within the layers as well as the surface. This leaves a brighter, smoother and more balanced complexion. And you can use them all over your body too.

Why a clay mask base?

Because the more YOU are in control of ingredients that are going to sit on your skin for an extended period of time, the better you have control over any inadvertent toxins that you may come into contact with. Some ready-made mask formulations contain preservatives and fragrances that really don't belong in personal care products. It's up to you...toxins or sans toxins?

You. Make. The. Choices.

The basic recipe is as follows:

Use approximately a teaspoon of KAOLIN with a teaspoon of Facial Cleansing Powder and 5-6 drops of Facial Oil to make a luxurious mix. Add a water component (that can be a Botanical Mist if you prefer) and mix to a paste. Apply for up to 10 mintues then wash off with tepid water. I advise using a facial oil, salve or fresh made cream onto your damp skin immediately after washing off the mask to lock in moisture and feed the dermis.

There are lots of ways to make your mask suit the kind of skin issue you are dealing with.

Here's just a few ideas...

For sunburned, irritated or inflamed skin conditions:

Use one part KAOLIN Clay with one part *BALANCE Powdered Facial Cleanser and 6 to 10 drops of PANACEA Aromatherapy blend. Mix to a paste, adding in a little ICE MYLK , purified water, cooled tea (PETALS&MINT tea is a great choice for cooling skin) or QUIET Botanical Mist till it reaches a smooth consistency. Apply to damp skin and leave for 5 minutes before washing off using a Facial Cloth to gently remove any residue. Apply a small amount of PANACEA oil while the skin is still damp to moisturise.

*BALANCE Powdered Facial Cleanser is now a exfoliant free blend and suitable for skin that may have open cracks or sores.

For mature, creased, sun/wind damaged or extremely dry skin conditions:

Use one part KAOLIN Clay with one part SOOTHE Powdered Facial Cleanser and 6 to 10 drops of SERENE Facial Oil. Mix to a paste, adding a little water (purified, cooled tea or RADIANT Botanical Mist) and a teaspoon of good quality raw honey if you have severe redness, till it reaches smooth consistency. Apply to damp skin and leave for 10 minutes misting regulary to keep the masque moist. It's important not to let it dry out. Wash off with luke warm water using a Facial Cloth to gently remove any residue and apply a little SERENE Facial Oil, BLESSING Restorative Salve, or VERITAS Regenerative Serum, to your skin while it's damp.

For lack-lustre skin, dull and pale complexions:

Use one part KAOLIN Clay with one part DEVOTEE Powdered Facial Cleanser and 6 to 10 drops of ANAHATA Aromatherapy Blend. Mix to a paste, adding one squeeze of ILLUSION Gel Cleanser and a little water (purified, cooled tea or UPLIFT Botanical Mist) till it reaches smooth consistency. Apply to damp skin and leave for 10 minutes. Wash off (very gently...this one has a mild exfoliating component) with cool water using a Facial Cloth to gently remove any residue. Then apply SKIN ELIXIR Facial Oil while skin is damp. Massage in gently to stimulate blood flow to the surface layers. You may also like to do this mask before or after a Gua Sha massage. I prefer to Gua Sha first then masque as it helps me relax.

A mask/masque is so helpful for treating overexposed skin. The neck (back and front), shoulders and decolletage can all benefit from a once a week treatment. Take time to relax while the mask is on. Don't do anything but put your feet up and sip tea. The 'time out' is rewarding in so many ways...and you deserve (more than) 10 minutes care and attention.

So many combinations are possible, but I recommend you take it easy if you have reactive skin; use benign but beneficial ingredients like fresh mashed avocado, paw paw, papaya or banana, raw coconut oil and honey with your clay masque. Try plain chamomile tea cooled as your water component for skin that is angry, sore or has open sores. Use a Rosella/Hibiscus tea if you are wanting more vibrancy and glow. Once your skin is soothed and healing you can try other kinds of masque treatments.
